The Nassau Sport Fishing Association (NSFA) was established in 1983 and is a not-for-profit organization authorized by the State of Florida. The club is supported by individuals who best represent those ideas defined in the Club’s Mission Statement:To develop and promote salt water fishing in the Nassau County area while adhering to state, federal and local regulations, to encourage compliance with rules of water safety by club members and the general public, and to promote youth related community activities. Such efforts may be in funds or other activities deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.
The NSFA is always looking for ways to contribute to the youth in our community. We are proud to be members of the Business Partners in Education, which contributes money to the Fernandina Beach High School through grants and scholarships. Various charities benefit from our annual Kingfish Tournament, Backwater Tournament and Black Drum Tournament proceeds. We also host our annual Youth Tournament where every kid takes home a rod & reel. Our motto for the tournament is "Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs". This year we are proud to be partnering with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization for our Backwater Tournament.
In addition to the scholarships that we help fund through the Business Partners in Education, we awarded our first recipient of the Johnny Thirsk Memorial Scholarship this May and will award our second one next year. This is a two year scholarship funded solely by NSFA.
The club actively supports the placement of artificial reefs. In March 2006 the club worked with the Fernandina Beach High School and the United States Coast Guard to create Captain Daddy (CD) Reef. CD Reef is located approximately 10 miles southeast of the St Mary’s south jetty. The reef consist concrete boxes, concrete pyramids and other concrete rubble.
Each year the NSFA presents a Drum Tournament, a Youth Tournament, a Trout Tournament and the Southern Kingfish Association sanctioned Kingfish Tournament of Champions.
